This Shannon Sharpe lawsuit is really getting a lot of attention, isn’t it? Here’s the recap if you haven’t been following this story.
NFL Football legend, Shannon Sharpe was hit with a $50 million civil lawsuit by a woman who claims she raped her.
Shannon Sharpe was in hopes of securing a $100 million podcast deal, sources told the U.S. Sun.
This is a typical story of Black celebrities. They run into some big money, and here comes the scandal and lawsuits from the conspiring power structure.
Tapes were released of Shannon Sharpe and the 19 or 20 year old having race play conversations.
Many people in the Black social media circles are heavily criticizing Shannon Sharpe while saying things like, “That’s what he gets for messing with that White woman.”
Other people are shaming him for being damn near 60 and messing with a young lady. There are others on social media defending the age disparity on the grounds of the young lady accuser still being grown.
I think it’s still important to defend Shannon Sharpe against a racist shakedown, even if you think he ignorantly put himself in that situation. That’s what this whole fiasco appears to be. Most who disagree with Shannon Sharpe messing with younger women, do so on social grounds, and maybe your own self-righteous, moral grounds.
You might think he’s socially lame for approaching senior citizenship and dating a recent high school graduate. Or some Blacks may think Sharpe is a lame for messing with a White woman. But, Sharpe committed no crime, legally.
You may have your personal morals and values on what a good age difference should be with dating. The hardcore, conscious, woke, pro-Black, or whatever you want to call it, may morally disagree on the grounds of sociopolitical reasons related to Black unity, Black families, and community building. But the fact of the matter is, Shannon Sharpe committed no crime, so far.
It appears from the tape audio, that Sharpe may like engaging in sexual race play. You can have your judgements of thinking he’s weird, corny, or hard-headed from not learning from O.J. Simpson or whoever else Black celebrity was caught up in a interracial scandal. But I still think it’s important to support Black celebrities who endure unwarranted humiliation rituals through the media and endure financial shakedowns.
This seems to be an American life long trend of building Black celebrities up and then pulling the rug from underneath them with a hard humiliation ritual/scandal fall.
We shouldn’t defend every Black public figure if they do something blatantly wrong. We should condemn them and distance them from Black America. But we can’t let every miniscule clown thing a Black public figure does, cause us to send them to the bigoted wolves.
Tony Buzbee is the Caucasian lawyer representing the 20 year old lady filing the sexual assault lawsuit. Many are accusing him of being racist, considering he also represented more than 50 plaintiffs in sexual assault lawsuits against Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, and a later refined lawsuit to include Sean “Jay-Z Carter.
People are saying that Buzbee likes to financially shakedown wealthy Black celebrities. We can criticize Sharpe later. It’s important to stand guard and offer support to Sharpe until we find out he did something much more egregious.
