We all know the obvious reason why the fourth of July or Independence Day has to be about race. That obvious reason is that Black people were enslaved by Whites on the day the White-ruled 13 colonies attained Independence from the other White-ruled Great Britain on July 4, 1776. Whites were free and owned slaves or they were free and didn’t own slaves. Either way, they were free. So of course Whites would celebrate the freedom of Independence Day.
So why would Black people celebrate another group’s freedom to own and brutalize them independently of Great Britain? It makes no sense.
On many posts on social media, whether it’s Facebook or YouTube, you will hear Blacks express these same sentiments. Many Whites understand this thought process. I’ll give credit to any White person or any other race who understands this. Then there are the other apathetic and sociopathic Whites snarkily asking “Why does everything have to be about race with you guys?” Then they will implore that we just celebrate “our historically great country” together. The answer to the snarky question of why everything has to be about race is obvious. The answer is to ask your ancestor slave-owners why their slave-owning atrocities had to be about race, while enslaving the Black race specifically. And why did Jim Crow legalized racial discrimination and legalized lynching have to be about race, while doing it to Black people specifically? And it was done before, during, and after the very Independence Day holiday that we celebrate.
And why does more subtle forms of racism still exist today? Why did redlining exist to hurt Black people?
Why do Blacks receive harsher sentences by the justice system for committing the same crime than Whites and any other race? Why are there so many cases of White racist cops shooting, killing, and otherwise, assaulting unarmed and complying Black men and women? Why was crack cocaine dumped into Black inner cities in the mid 1980s and then targeted for mass arrests in the 1990s. Why does everything have to be about race with these powerful institutions that implement racism by administering preference, power and privilege to Whites, while denying them to Blacks.? That’s a good question.
Why did colonizers go around pillaging Africa and every land mass where Blacks existed for years before slavery? And why did they use force and manipulation to take their land and resources and then brainwash them into acting deferential if not outright obsequious to Whites? Why did that have to be about race? Why specifically did that have to target Black people. American institutions did dirt to Asians, Hispanics, and other ethnic backgrounds. But they did the most grimey stuff to Blacks. The question is why. Historically, Whites even beefed with each other based on ethnic and cultural origins- Jews, Irishman, Italian and whatever else. They agreed to ban together in the early 1940s to mess with everyone else. Happy Independence Day though.
To be honest, every time a Black pundit on television or a Black average joe points out a clear cut case of racism, they’re asked why they have to make everything about race and pretend that it doesn’t exist. This could be a case of racism in their personal lives or something they read about that they connect to what they know about history or personal experiences. There’s a reason some Whites have hissy fits over schools teaching critical race theory. It will highlight some of their ancestors’ past racial terrorism and give them the answer to why everything has to be about race.
It’s not good to act as if you don’t know why the everything has to be about race. That’s called lack of empathy and sociopathic behavior to pretend as if you don’t understand justifiable grievances of racism. Happy Independence Day though folks.
